A Review of the Factors Influencing Satisfaction with Marriages of University Students

This study was conducted to examine the rate of satisfaction with marriages of university students and identify the factors influencing this phenomenon in some branches of Islamic Azad University. The research population includes all the couples who got married in the years 2001 and 2005. A sample of 306 subjects was selected using regular random sampling technique. Two questionnaires were used to collect the data: a demographic information questionnaire and a questionnaire on satisfaction with marital life. The data was analyzed by multiple regression method. The results showed that all the marital factors have meaningful influence on the student couples’ satisfaction with their marital life but “getting along with each other’, ‘rich and fruitful relationship’, ‘common interests’ and ‘caring about the partner’ are the most important factors which influence satisfaction with marital life and explain more than 65 percent of the variance of life satisfaction. ‘The husband’s residence and job’, ‘the wife’s having information about the husband’s savings’ and ‘the wife’s having information about the husband’s helping his family’ are among the social, economic, and educational factors influencing satisfaction with marital life. The practical implications of the study are discussed at the end.
