Abstract:

The early alarms of global warming and its possible links to anthropogenic sources were raised by meteorologists and climatologists of the 1980›s. Due to the advancement of climate sciences and the availability of reliable observational evidence, global warming has been, widely publicized and drawn the attention of both the public and the policy makers around the world. This research presents a brief introduction to the climate and its inner workings and dynamics, and also discusses the greenhouse gases, their functions, and their natural and man-made origin. Attempt has been made in this paper to highlight the projected climate of the 21st century, in order to point out the possible ways of adaptation to new climate and mitigation of its unpleasant aspects. The solution boils down to less and more efficient use of fossil fuels and their replacement with new and renewable energy sources. This paper aims at drawing the attention of the public to the environmental shifts in general and scientific societies in particular about the warming Earth. Challenges are truly global ones and require global solutions.
