The role of general education in prevention of crimes

Abstract:
Nowadays, the role and the importance of general education in providing individual and public security in society are well understood by the police. Police could take advantage of people's cooperation and assistance in its plans and major and minor goals via education and social communications in diverse cases such as theft; addiction; motoring offences; fraud; different educational, ethical and social issues; the way people communicate with police; taking care of children and family members and etc. This study is aimed to "examine the efficacy of different methods of general education in crime prevention". Clearly the study pursues the scientific and practical answer for its main question: Are using different methods of general education effective in prevention of crimes? And the sentence, "different methods of general education are effective in prevention of crimes", is the chief hypothesis that the study seeks to test. The population has been chosen from the elite and authorities of the police in the field of general education and Tehran citizens from two police stations of Niavaran 123 and Abusaeid 112 which belong to the chief stations of the 1st and the 8th. The sample consists of 384 people: 100 from the police authorities in the field of general education and 284 people whom have randomly been chosen through cluster sampling in two stages. The means required for gathering the primary and the final data are face-to-face interviews and researcher-made questionnaires. The reliability of the designed questionnaire is properly valued by a Cronbach alpha of 0/905. Data analysis is done by using descriptive and deductive statistic's indices- dependent statistical tests (Fischer test, T. Student) in SPSS. The conducted statistical analyses carried out according to the collected data from the research real field indicate: "the effectiveness of the written announcements, brochures, pamphlets, and etc."; " ineffectiveness of the physical presence of the police officers in public places"; "ineffectiveness of electronic trainings"; "effectiveness of the T.V." and "effectiveness of radio programs" in the process of general education for members of society in order to prevent crimes.
