Environmental Organic Pollutants Management Based on Processing Waste Materials in Rural Areas

Abstract:
There is no existence of healthy dumping and recycling centre for organic wastes materials in rural areas in Iran, thus recycling of these waste materials in house is the exclusive way for environmental protection. By that mean, a national project was run for bio-recycling of organic waste materials by using red rainy worm, Eiseniafetida with taking rural women's participation. In this project, 13 women in different ages and education levels selected randomly and trained by participatory method and TOT during two years (2010-13). Each person took a worm box to work with them and get more experiences based on the workshop topics in the village. After that, all women gathered and made a small bio factory in the house of a member for developing their work. Then they learned how to get money by recycling the waste materials, culturing the worms and selling the bio fertilizer (vermicompost and its by-products). Besides, they learned how to use the bio fertilizer instead of chemical ones to produce organic vegetables. This paper describes the dimensions of the project, process of earth worm culture and bio fertilizer production by community and created employment in economic point.
