Design and Implementation of a Driving Simulator Graphical Environment and Traffic Model

ASA Run is a driving simulator designed for research and training purposes with both fixed and moving platforms. In this paper, the graphical and traffic simulation of the virtual environment is described. For realistic simulation, a real model of a district in Tehran is generated. Vehicle travel is simulated based on driver behavior and applied in tracing curves; intersection crossing using hyperbolic or linear-circular functions; roundabout crossing linearcircular functions; right of way based on prediction of other vehicles positions; collision avoidance in the presence of fixed obstacles, traveling vehicles, and pedestrians; proper actions in dangerous conditions; safe headway; safe speed; and overtaking.
