The effects of empowerment program on hemoglobin A1C, type 2 diabetes patients
Educationing diabetic patients about treatment and prevention of side effect of the disease have an important role in their self manangment of it. The new educational methods such as empowerment program have an active role are more discussed. Recently، patients’ HbA1C has become as an important issue in clinical research. This study was conducted for evaluate the effects of empowerment program on level of Hb A1C in type 2 diabetic patients.
This was a experimental research consist of 134 type 2 diabetic patients that randomly assigned to equal intervention and control groups. Using a questionnaire consists of two parts; demographic data and HbA1C test collected. Empowerment program implemented for intervention group according to former prepared protocol during six sessions lasted 90 minutes. Data collected before and 3 mounts after intervention. SPSS software was used for data analysis.
Demographic characteristics for the intervention and control groups were similar. No significant differences was found between control and intervention groups’ empowerment regarding their HbA1C before intervention (p>0. 05). Baseline and posttest findings showed that the intervention group had a significant reduction in A1C values (p<0. 05). Conclution: The study suggest that implementation of the empowerment positively affects HbA1C of patient undergone type 2 diabetes
