A Cultural, Strategic Analysis of the Hajj and Umrah Websites and Databases

Many ministries, official organizations, NGOs and domestic and foreign travel and pilgrimage agencies have set up websites and the databases to display and introduce their activities and services on Hajj and Umrah. However, a careful look at these websites clearly indicates that their activities are limited to national level and they have not entered international arenas. In fact, they are satisfied with dealing with the present status of Hajj and handling the strategic and profound issues is not high on their agenda. The statistical population includes all the Hajj and Umrah websites and databases. After screening, a sample 112 Persian, Arabic and Turkish websites of the Iranian and foreign organizations and information centers active in the field of Hajj and Umrah were selected randomly. The sites were, then, studied using the descriptive-analytical survey method as well as Webology as a conventional, professional method.The findings indicate that, at present, no national and international Hajj and Umrah website has extended its mission to strategic and international arenas, which, in turn, is not compatible with Hajj-e Ibrahimi ant its global potentials, scope and grandeur.
