Urban transportation system costs for Tehran in 2011

Abstract:
In order to achieve economical and social development, especially in the case of transportation systems, urban policy makers have the challenge of decision-making and the choice of economical and social projects to invest in. Every decision is made to generate the most profit for the city and eventually the country, through limited resources and investments. In order to facilitate the process of economical decision-making, 10 categorized costs, imposed in this study by transportation sector (including 10 transportation modes) for Tehran city in 2011, have been calculated per passenger-kilometer at peak and off-peak hours. Then, system costs due to each trip made with the designated mode have been specified. It has been concluded that private vehicles and minibuses are the most expensive modes whereas walking, biking and subway are the least expensive ones for making a trip in Tehran city in 2011 at peak and off-peak hours.
