Road Security, a Way to Achieve National Security: Reviewing People's Believes About the Cause of Car Accidents in Southern Khorasan

If you want to investigate the cause of deaths and injuries in accidents, we have to observe the social dimensions of the issue and the prevalent behaviors and norms in the society and the necessity to perform behavior reform. Since recognizing causes and factors contributing in accidents especially beliefs in human beings is quite important, this study aims to analyze human beliefs’ role in accidents. This is descriptive research. A researcher made questionnaire has been used to collect data. The questionnaire investigates accidents from three dimensions, driver, chance and other factors such as road, car quality etc. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire have been verified and the necessary changes were also applied. Descriptive and inferential statistics (variance analysis, Pearson correlation and t test) were used to analyze data. Results show that the research subjects consider all factors including driver, chance and other (road and car) to some extent effective. While analyzing beliefs, a significant difference has been observed between male and female subjects. Residence of rural area put more credit for chance than those in urban areas though the statistical difference wasn’t significant. A positive relationship has been noticed between age and beliefs toward cause of accidents. Another significant difference obtained from the analysis was between subjects’ educational degree and their beliefs in chance as a factor contributing in the accident.
