Exploring Iranian EFL teacher's assessment of their manager's management skills as a determinant of their job satisfaction

Message:
Abstract:
As a source of motivation for EFL teachers in their work environment، their satisfaction with their manager’s behavior comprises the basis of the present study. Through triangulation and employment of two types of interview، a regular one and an innovative adaptive type، we elicited Iranian EFL teachers’ perception of their managers’ management skills in the private sector. The two data were then compared in terms of the quality and quantity of information they provided in order to examine the reliability of the innovative research method. Primary results indicated that، among diverse managing skills، Iranian EFL teachers were most dissatisfied with the managers’ attempts at financial planning، extra-curricular planning and communication skills. Secondary results revealed that the adaptive interview elicited more consistent information with fewer redundancies and repetitions from the respondents. It also took an average shorter time than the regular version of the interview. Such findings are promising for the realm of research both in general and for ELT research in particular.
