The Effectiveness of Teaching Emotion Regulation Based on Gross Model on Reducing Anger in Drug-Dependent People

Abstract:
Introduction
Low levels of emotional regulation, resulting from the inability to effectively cope with and manage their emotions, may play a role in the onset of drug use. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effectiveness of teaching emotion regulation based on Gross model on reduction of anger among drug-dependent people.
Method
This research is part of a pilot pretest- posttest project carried out on a control group. All the addicts who referred to addiction clinics in the city of Marivan from 2012 to 2013 were examined. Among them, a total of 30 drug-dependent individuals were selected by simple random sampling with the same method which was used in the test and control groups. Results were analyzed using analysis of covariance.
Results
Overall, the results showed that education of emotion regulation based on Gross model can reduce the signs of anger in substance dependent individuals (p<0/001).
Conclusion
Problems concerning emotion regulation is one of the difficulties in front of drug-dependent people and learning how to express their emotions and manage individuals can be effective in reducing these problems.
