Epidemiological Study of Suicide and Attempted Suicide and Related Factor in Kohgiluyeh

Abstract:
Background
Suicide is a major problem and prevent it a global priority. This study aims to determine the incidence and risk factors of suicide attempts in the second half of 2012 was Kohgiluyeh city.
Methods
In this cross-sectional study Kohgiluyeh city with a population of about 200 thousand persons were conducted. The study sample included 185 cases of suicide attempters from October 2012 until the end of year. Data were collected from questionnaires used in SUPRE-MISS.
Findings
The incidence of suicide attempts in the Kohgiluyeh was 92.5 per Hundreds of thousands in the second half 2012 year, the gender distribution 42.2% for men and 57.8 in women. The highest rates of suicide attempts observed in 11-20 age year whit 50.5 percent. 69.2 of Suicide were single and location of suicide in city area was 69.2 percent. The most common method of committing suicide using pills 69.7 percent.
Conclusion
Results showed that suicide attempts are common in the city Kohgiluyeh, according that 88.1 percent of suicide attempters who were aged less than 30 years to demand serious attention to the needs of the group.
