A Study of the Impact of National Ceremonies and Occasions on Reinforcing National Unity and Cohesion With an Emphasis on Social Training of the Youth

Abstract:
This paper examines the impact of national occasions and ceremonies on reinforcing social solidarity and national unity. This is an applied research work and the research method is descriptive-analytic. From the perspective of the respondents, who are experts and scholars familiar with the research topic, religion with a mean of 4.86 is the most effective factor in strengthening national unity and ‘national identity 'and ‘shared land’ are ranked next. While all the factors contribute to the strengthening of national unity, language with a mean of 4.10has the lowest impact on national unity. Also, although the experts have given equal weight to the factors shaping social training, 'understanding the role’ (4.52) has greater weight among these factors. In other words, what needs to be concentrated on in training the youth is ‘explanation of their role in society and how it is to be fulfilled’ which can greatly impact on their social training.
