Bilingualism effects on creative thinking and creative performance

Context: Research aiming to study the effects of bilingualism on creativty have contradicatory results. Some parts of this conflicting results relates to meashring creativity. Most research in creativity studies use self-report questionaires or creative and divergent thinking as an indicator of creativity. However, resent research implided that ther is poor correlation between creative performance and mentioned tests. This research conducted using traditional and modern instruments to eluciadiate bilingulism effects on creativity.Target: the purpose of cureent study was comparative investigation of bilingual and monolingual students. croos- sectional desighn was used to gathering data simiultanusly. Master students of psychological – educational faculty of Allame tabatabaii university To control the educational level effects (103 bilngual, and 103 monolingual students). Data analysis using MANOVA showed that in 3 dimensions (fluency, elobration, and originality)of Torrance creative thinking the bilingual students had advantages to monolinguals. But in other 2 dimesions of creative thinking, there was no significant difeerence between those groups. Resuls, also. Showed that there was no significant difference between monolinguals and bilinguals in creative performance. results of current research implied when creativity was measured by tests such as Torrance creative thinking, bilingual students get higher scores. However, when creativity was assessed by creativity performance tests, this difference was not observed.
