Muti purpose beam forming in LEO satellite antenna for beam stering, null steering and arbitrary shaped coverages

Abstract:
The beam forming algorithm presented in this paper is to achieve three simultaneous capability in a LEO satellite phase area antenna which are shaping the coverage area, beam steering and null steering. Shaping the coverage area is to adapt it with Iran geographical boundaries. Beam steering is done according to the satellite real time position that cause fix area coverage when the satellite is passing over the country. The pattern deep nulls are generated and directed such that cause deactivating deception receivers located out of the coverage area. The algorithm is based on Weighted Least Mean Square (WLMS) method and during its process the optimum phase and amplitude weights obtained to excite array antenna elements. Simulation results shows that a 10*10 array using above algorithm can make a coverage with arbitrary shape, steer its beam in the range of -40˚≤θ≤+40˚ and 0˚≤φ≤360˚, fix the coverage on the intended area and deactivate deception receivers.
