Effect of spent mushroom compost application on growth parameters and macroelement uptake in lettuce (lactuca sativa L.cv Syaho)

Message:
Abstract:
Application of organic amendments such as spent mushroom compost has received significant attention due to achieve sustainable production and healthy yield. This is very important in soil organic matter deficient soils. In this research, the effect of spent mushroom compost on growth indices and macroelements (N, P, K and Ca) uptake in lettuce (lactuca sativa L. cv Syaho) was studied based on completely randomized experiment with five replication in greenhouse condition. Experimental treatments were 0 (control), 10, 20, 30,40 and 50% of washed and unwashed spent mushroom compost (SMC) in a sandy loam soil. Some physicochemical properties and bioavailable concentration of macroelements were measured. After growing period, plant was harvested and growth indices like plant height, leaf number and surface, chlorophyll content and stomatal conductance of leaves, dry and wet weight and macro element concentration in lettuce were measured. Orthogonal comparison showed that washed spent mushroom compost in comparison to unwashed one had significant effect on measured parameters (p
