Investigating and clarifying the status of " jihad" as one of the theoretical principles of Holy Defense in Quran

One of the major issues which has been propounded comprehensively in the holy Quran is Jihad. The present study was attempted to investigate and clarify the position of Jihad in the Holy Quran. This subject is considered as one of the most important principles of resistance literature and holy defense. This theoretical study followed a descriptive-analytical method. The results of this study revealed that Islam is not a negligent or indifferent religion; rather it is responsible for all individuals of the society. In Islam, accepting the enemy's oppression and aggression is reprimanded and Muslims are commanded to do offensive Jihad so as to defend the independence and liberty of their territories, fight the corruptions of criminals, protect their rights, eliminate the sedition, preserve the might of Islam and prevent the power being exclusively in the hands of the aggressors. It is also prescribed to make the rules of God keep governing and to help gain knowledge of self, do jihad with self, know the enemy and do jihad with the enemy. This study, moreover, demonstrated that carnal desires and evil temptations are always there to lead the human astray so that he abandons worshipping the Unique God and gets involved in the life of this world and worshipping the evil. In order not to get afflicted with such a calamity, it is essential to gain insight into the monotheistic religion.
