Function Sociological Theories in Analyzing the Film Case study analysis of the film Turtles Can Fly

Abstract:
The current study is an attempt to provide a functional approach to reading the films to show how the film can be analyzed according to sociological theories. For this purpose, the film "Turtles Can Fly" was chosen for practical analysis. By examining various ideas proposed by various scholars regarding the theory of collective behavior, the Neil Smelser’s theory of "structural pressure" was chosen as the main model of the study. Through matching the film events with the six-stage emergence of social movements, it became clear that different developmental stages of the film story correspond with Smelser’s ideas. Based on the findings of this study, it can be suggested that in analyzing movies with social themes, as well as writing screenplays in the field of cinema, theories of social analysis be utilized as a practical model.
