Using Internet and the tendency to self-showing (Case Study of female graduates of one university in Tehran)

Abstract:
Today, Internet with extensive penetration rate has affected different areas of life of people to create their own space through which they can escape the limitations of public and private spheres and express themselves.
People on Internet are converted to searchable lists and their daily life events and activities are not hidden from others any more.
This study aims to investigate the relationship between using Internet and the tendency to self-showing. Information was obtained from a sample of 225 subjects. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and the relationship between variables was assessed through correlation test.
The results showed that the rate of access to Internet, variety of internet services, and variety of purposes of people using Internet are all in relations with self-showing and personality traits; Also the more the tendency toward anonymity on Internet, the more was the tendency toward self-showing. Obtained data of the relationship between using internet and self-showing indicates that using more internet results in self-showing and expression of personal domain of lives of people.
