Other-worldly punishment, Why and How: A Survey of the Viewpoints of Majlesi and Tabatabayee
Author(s):
Abstract:
We face two approaches, answering the question on the reason and quality of other-worldly punishment; The first approach considers the relation between sin and other-worldly punishment as nominal as worldly crime and fine; the second approach considers the relation between sin and punishment real and existential, referring to the thesis of embodiment of deeds and maintains afterlife retribution as the form and embodiment of wrongdoer's sin. Majlesi is a proponent of the first approach while Tabatabayee supports the second one. In this article we survey the viewpoint of these two scholars on this issue.
