The Efficacy of Anger Management Training on Reduction of Aggression in Students with Intellectual Disability

The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of anger management training in reduction of anger management in students with intellectual disability. This study was a single subject design which is conducted with three students with intellectual disability. Three students with age range of 18 - 19 were selected from pre-vocational school male students in seven to nine graders that were studying in Sepehr School in Bojnord during the 2013 academic year. The individuals were selected because of showing behavioral problems in the class, and endorsement of school principal of their aggressive behaviors and completion of Buss and Perry (1992) Questionnaire by mothers, and not having other disabilities such as sensory, visual and auditory impairments as well as physical disability. Moreover these students were not participating in other programs. during nine sessions twice a week. The assessments were performed two sessions before and after anger management training program. The applied tools in this study included Buss and Perry’ Questionnaire, Social Validity of the Questionnaire, (Martens, Witt, Elliot & Darveaux, 1985) was adequate. Moreover, systematic observation were used. The results showed that interpersonal aggressive behaviors were reduced as a result of intervention. Besides, visual display and effect size of the Percentage of Non-overlapping Data (PND) method and standardized mean difference showed effectiveness of the intervention.
