Designing and Testing a Model of Antecedents of Psychological Engagement in an Industrial Company

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to design and test the proposed model of some antecedents of psychological engagement. The sample consisted of 308 employees of an industrial company who were selected by stratified random sampling. The instruments used included: Emotional State, Emotional Climate, Relationship with Coworkers, Relationship with Supervisor, Emotional Exhaustion, Psychological Safety, Psychological Meaningfulness, and Psy-chological Engagement Questionnaires. Fitness of the proposed model was examined through structural equation modeling. The indirect effects were tested using the bootstrap procedure. Findings indicated that the proposed model fit the data. Better fit and more meaningful result was obtained by omitting 3 paths and using modi-fication indices. Finding also showed that interpersonal relationships in organizations, both directly and through the mediation of emotional exhaustion, psychological safety, and psycho-logical meaningfulness, have a positive effect on psychological engagement (p
