The effect of eight-week specific training with different intensities on cardio- pulmonary variables in non-athlete men

Abstract:
Background and Purpose

The effectiveness of exercise training, whether in the sports for all or in the championships, is very important. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of 8 weeks of training at the aerobic and anaerobic threshold intensities with equal total work and frequency on the cardiopulmonary parameters in non-athlete men.

Methodology

Twenty- tow untrained male university students volunteered to participate in this study and were divided randomly into two aerobic (N= 12; 61% HRmax) and anaerobic threshold (N= 9; 86% HRmax) groups. Pre and post the training, subjects performed a progressive exercise treadmill test for determine maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max), anaerobic threshold velocity (vAT) and Oxygen uptake at anaerobic threshold (VO2 at AT). Training program performed for 8 week and 3 sessions /week with the equal total work and oxygen consumption. The within groups as well as the between groups differences were evaluated by paired samples t-test and independent samples t-test respectively. The effect size was calculated for each significant difference by the means of the omega square method.

Results

Results of this study showed that after the training VO2 at AT and vAT were increased significantly in both exercising groups. Both groups had a marked decreased in resting HR and BP. Also, VO2max significantly increased in anaerobic threshold groups (P=0.009) while, There were no significant changes in VO2max in aerobic threshold group. Results of independent t-test showed that no significant differences between the two training program.

Conclusion

In conclusion, The results of this study demonstrate that When volume of exercise is controlled, higher intensity of exercise are more effective for improving VO2max than lower intensity of exercise in non- trained young men.
