Abstract:
In the course of social and cultural change in Qajar era newspapers,as a modern device in the hands of criticising intellectuals, played a vital role in giving pace to modernizing eforts. With the advent of the Constitutional movement women,s newspapers, too, were able to appear on the scene. These women newspapers managed to become an arena for publicizing women,s demands, and brought about a totally femenine character to their efforts. This study using discourse analysis methodology persues to deconstruct the ways and tactics through which these newspapers tried to infiltrate the structure of the traditional realm and, and make passage to the concept and values of modern woman, through the pages of seven women,s newspapers by the title of:Danesh,Shokoofeh,Zaban Zanan,Nameh Banovan,Alam Nesvan,Jahan Zanan, and Nesvan Vatankhah. The main question to tackle is what strategies were adopted by these women,s newspapers to bring about a shift from traditional ideal type of a woman to its modern equvalent, and what issues were their priorities.
