The Role of Distinguished Psychological Resilience and Coping Styles Emotional -Oriented Coping and Problem-Focused Coping Styles in Predicting Student's Psychological Distress Profile and Comparison on the Basis of Gender

Abstract:
Depression, anxiety and stress can be a precursor to substance and alcohol abuse and even suicide. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of distinguished psychological resilience and coping styles emotional -oriented coping and problem-Focused Coping Styles in predicting student's Psychological Distress Profile And comparison on the basis of gender.
Method
The method of the study was correlational and causal comparative. The entire population of the study consisted of non-native students in Oromieh University in the academic year 2015-2016. Out of this population, 200 students were randomly selected who were staying at Oromieh University dormitories. Of these students 50% (n=100) were female, and the other half were male. In order to collect data, the adolescents responded to Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) Questionnaire, the Resiliency Scale and Endler and Parker’s Coping Questionnaire was used. Information obtained was analyzed by using multivariate analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis.
Results
The results showed that there was a significant negative correlation between resiliency and Psychological Distress Profile. There was significant positive correlation between emotional and avoidant coping styles,. There also existed a significant relationship between Psychological Distress Profile and emotion based and avoidant coping styles and variables of coping style (emotion-based), resiliency, and gender well predicted Psychological Distress Profile (R2=%33). Base upon this result can be Conclude that with improving the level of coping styles and resiliency of students, depression, anxiety and stress are reduced.
