The Role of Religious Seclusion in Psychological Well-Being of Students

Abstract:
One of the most important concerns of world, s countries is ensuring of health and individuals mental well-being. The objective of this study is to investigate the role of etikaf (seclusion in a mosque for the porpose of the ritual worship) on the psychological well-being of the students participating in the ceremony of etikaf.
Method
For the study, the pretest-posttest with control group design was used. The statistical population consisted of all of the students of universities in Tehran that of which two universities were selected as an available sample. And then between the students participating in the ceremony 140 students (70 girls and 70 boys) were selected randomly and using the Psychological well-being scale by Rif (1980), at one time before and again after the ceremony with the control group were tested.
Results
The results showed that: 1) the psychological well-being of the students was more after the ceremony comparing with the before of ceremony. 2) The Psychological well-being of the students was more compared with the ordinary students.
