Clarifying the formation of revolutionary coalition led by Imam Khomeini and its collapse

Abstract:
Revolutions are generally products of different political and ideological coalitions that reach a consensus to oppose the existing regime. Also in Iran, different political forces with different ideologies opposed the Pahlavi Regime and made a coalition. Meantime, Imam Khomeini’s leadership was the main factor connecting this coalition. According the above, the question of this research is the formation of coalition between different revolutionary forces and political currents not believing in political Islamism and Islamists lead by Imam Khomeini in Islamic Revolution of Iran and its collapse. The research method in this paper is case study and analysis technique is process tracking and the analysis of political forces. Research findings show that the groups under study inevitably felt the need to join the widespread surging of Islamist forces led by Imam Khomeini, gradually, from the first days of revolution and in the process of institutionalization, one after the other, these forces come into conflicts with Islamists and eventually were romoved from the coalition.
