The effectiveness of Hope- Focused marriage Enrichment program on women's marital adjustment and commitment

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the Hope-Focused marriage Enrichment program the marital adjustment and commitment. With this purpose in mind, 16 women living in the sixth district of Tehran were selected by volunteer sampling procedure and assigned randomly into experimental and control groups. First, both groups completed marital adjustment scale (Spanier, 1976) and marital commitment scale (Adams and Jones, 1997) as pretest. The experimental group participated in 5 sessions (10 hours) of Hope-Focused marriage enrichment program, while the control group was on the waiting list. After the sessions, both groups answered scales again as posttest. Data analysis using multivariate analysis of variance showed that there are significant differences between the experimental and control groups in terms of level of increase in marital adjustment, personal commitment, and structural commitment, and hope-based enrichment program has had an impact on these variables. However, there was no significant difference between two groups in level of moral commitment. The findings suggest that hope-focused marriage enrichment program that is a short-term and cost-effective method, can be an appropriate intervention for increasing the marital adjustment and commitment and enriching marital relationships.
