Social Analysis of the Relation between Religious Patterns and Social Tolerance among Shiraz University Students

The present article aims to study the relationship between religiosity and patterns of social tolerance among students of Shiraz University in the academic year 1393-94.
The method used in this research is quantitative survey and questionnaire five-point Likert scale is based and Cochran formula is used and the sample size was determined using 376 people. In order to explain the tolerance, the theory of Ingle hart was used as a conceptual framework. Cronbach's Alpha reliability of structures using 70/0, respectively, as well as its validity was confirmed by experts (validity). Data analysis, inferential statistics (mean difference, correlation and regression) using SPSS statistical software was performed.
The results indicated that the tolerance for age, sex, duration of attending college, school groups are associated. Also the regression analysis indicate those with stronger ritual dimension of religiosity have less tolerance. In contrast, tolerance is more prominent in those whose moral model of tolerance is higher. Finally, with the interference of eight variables the defined variance reached to 3.10 percent.
The author of the research concludes due to the fact that the increase in tendency toward tolerance is coincident with increase in mysticism pattern of moral and religion, more investment is suggested in the pattern of religious morals, because this model is not only leading to more tolerance in society, but would also include other positive moral consequences.
