The role of the social media in revolution of Iran and Egypt

Abstract:
This paper presents a comparative study of the role of the social communications in the Iranian and Egypt revolution. In both revolutions that happened as a result of dictatorship and the closing of political space role of the communications media was prominent. The research method in this study is description -analytical, so that resources through library are collected and analyzed. The results show that in the Islamic Revolution of Iran, from traditional media was used to communicate and protests against the Shah's regime. In contrast, Egypt's 2011 revolution, globalization and developments in space communications media have been conducted. Thus, social media such as Facebook and Twitter have played a bigger role. This media using the features of anonymity and decentralization of government create links that was lead to diffusion, social mobilization, political organization and social cohesion. However, due to the lack of development of the communications media in the era of the Iranian revolution, the role have played by mosques and Pulpits, street notices, writing slogans.
