The Effect of Using Supportive Teaching Strategies on Student Learning and Remembering

Message:
Abstract:
Learning many of the concepts in mathematics are challenging for many students. To help students overcome these challenges, teachers employ appropriate teaching strategies. One such set of strategies aim at building supportive scaffoldings. To assess the effect of such strategies two groups of sixth graders were randomly selected, pretested, and then one of them put through a course using the supportive strategies while the other experiencing the usual teaching method in mathematics. The instrument used in this assessment was constructed based on the content of the course taught and its validity was estimated to be adequate by both experienced math teachers and specialists. The internal consistency of the measure was estimated to be 0.83. The results show that the experimental group learned and remembered the subject matter much better than the other group.
