Study on Concrete Strength Homogeneity in Walls Made with Self Compacting Concrete Containing Silica Fume-Nano SiO2 and Zeolite

Abstract:
Improper homogeneity of concrete due to segregation phenomenon and low compaction can affect its in situ performance. Today, by increasing the use of self compacting concrete (SCC) in civil engineering applications, It seems to be necessary to investigate the homogeneity of concrete by measuring the in situ hardened properties such as compressive strength. In this study, the assessment of concrete compressive strength was carried out in the height of walls made with SCC and it was compared with normal concrete (NC). In this research, pozzolanic materials such as combination of silica fume-nano SiO2 and zeolite are used as partial replacement of cement to investigate the effect of these materials on strength variation in SCC mixtures. The walls made in full scale and had been reinforced for considering real condition of executive. Nondestructive tests such as ultrasonic pulse velocity and Schmidt hammer and partial destructive test such as core were carried out on the walls. The test results show more homogeneity in strength for walls made with SCC in compared to NC. Also the use of combination of silica fume- nano SiO2 indicates more improvement on homogeneity in compared to containing zeolite of SCC mixtures. Variations of strength in height of the wall made with SCC and NVC was 6 and 8 percent, respectively that indicate the proper function of self-compacting concrete in full-scale elements.
