The Removal of Phenol from Aqueous Solution Using A Mixture of Carrageenan and Sodium Alginate Biopolymers in the Presence of Sodium Montmorillonite Nano Clay

Message:
Abstract:
In this work, experiments were carried out for synthesis of carrageenan and Na-Alginate - based nanocomposite hydrogels and study phenol adsorption behavior. Nanocomposite hydrogels based on kappa – carrageenan, Na-Alg were synthesized using Sodium montmorillonite as nano clay. Acriyl Amid and methylene bisaaylamid and potasium per sulfate were used as monomer and crosslinker respectively. The adsorption of phenol by the nanocomposite hydrogels was investigated. The structures of nanocomposite hydrogels were investigated by (FTIR, XRD, SEM) techniques. The adsorption kinetic data were analyzed using pseudo - first order, pseudo - second order models. It was found that pseudo - second order kinetic model was the appropriate model, describing the adsorption kinetic. Adsorption equilibrium was attended whitin 3 hourse. Equilibrium data were fitted to the Langmuir, frendlictl isotherm models and isotherm constants were determind. The Equilibrium data were best representing by the Langmuir isotherm model.
