The Mediating Role of Attachment to Peer in relationship between Attachment to Parents and Adolescent's Emotional Maturity

Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between attachment to parents and peers, and adolescents emotional maturity, as well as the mediating role of peers attachment in this relationship has been done. The non-experimental correlation method was applied to performance this study. Among male and female students 16 -18th in Tehran, 334 people were selected based on convenience as sample. Data were collected by Inventory Parents and Peers Attachment Revised (IPPA-R), and Emotional Maturity Scale (EMS). The results of Pearson correlation coefficient showed a significant relationship between the attachment to mother and father, and emotional maturity, and the relationship between peers attachment and all subscales of emotional maturity, as weel as was significant. Regression analysis showed that through informed of parents and peers attachment, variance of emotional maturity can be explain. In addition, attachment to peer had been the mediating role in the relationship between attachment to parents and emotional maturity. In interventions focused on improving the adolescents mental health, pay special attention to the role of adolescent's attachment to parents and peers in their emotional development recommended.
