Understanding and Analysis of the Narratives Regarding Interpretation of the Verse of «Kaf, Ha, Ya, ʼAyn, Sad» to the Battle of Karbala

The opening verses of certain surahs of Quran are allegorical, which includes Muqattaʿat (discontinued letters). Amongst is the verse of Kaf, Ha, Ya, ʼAyn, Sad, the opening to the blessed surah of Maryam. Some hadiths embodied in the narrated books of Imamiyah, regarding the respective verse, have provided an esoteric interpretation that relates the verse to Battle of Karbala and Imam Hossain. The core question regarding the understanding of the hadith is to what extent the esoteric interpretation of Imamiyah is reliable? This paper via descriptive -analytic method analyzes chain and text of the Hadith and tries to elaborate the concept of esoteric interpretation of the hadith so that through understanding the entire notion of the narrative, a comparison with fundamental concepts of Shia is made. The Studies reveal that this hadith is weak both in chain and text. In terms of the document the narrative is not mentioned in theauthentic narrated and interpreted books and also the narrators are of unknown, unreliable, indecent andprevaricated origin. The studies also engage with the critiques of textual-based analysis, pointing out six significant errors, particularly the misattribution of inadmissible characteristics to Imam Hassan Askari and Imam Mahdi. The authenticity of these two critiques exposes the inherent flaw within the esoteric interpretation of the text, hence the esoteric interpretation does lack the essential features to be assumed as valid.
