Abstract:
Despite numerous benefits of windows, they will cause 30 % total energy loss through building enclosure if energy efficiency is not increased. State-of-the-art technologies that have developed Building Industry have improved heating and cooling performance in windows compared to previous years. Since the improvement of cooling and heating load performance in cold and hot seasons is a priority in increasing energy efficiency in building elements, the purpose of this study was to investigate heating and cooling performance of conventional windows in the Building Industry of Iran. To this end, 21 types of windows were modeled in Design Builder Software and analyzed using Energy-Plus plug-in with meteorological data of Qazvin. The results showed that using double-glazed and triple-glazed windows instead of single-glazed windows respectively lead to 17 and 39 % of average decreased heating load. In addition, the analyses showed that low-emission windows have a desirable performance in the provision of thermal comfort of central regions of Iran with warm climates that require much cooling load.
