The Study of Social Vulnerability among Female-headed Households and Headed Women in Soltan-Abad District, Tehran

The number of female-headed households has increased with extensive growth rate in recent decades. This group in line with the population growth rate, has experienced another qualitative changes such as age composition and education, income distribution and economic poverty as well that has made them issues from relative normal condition to social problem of the kind of damage over time. The aim of this article is study and analysis of social vulnerability among female-headed households and their children in comparison with the Married Women. The theoretical framework to the problem's explain was derived strain, social attachments and feminization of poverty theories. This study is a Quasi-experimental research based on the survey technique. The investigation has included two statistical populations. First, it including to female-headed households whose have been active files in Setayesh-e-Mehr's Social Work Clinic in Soltan-Abad district from Tehran in 2015. The sampling method in the first population was enumeration. The second statistical population were headed women in the same area that selected with multi-stage cluster sampling to the comparison with the first group. The result showed that the significant differences among female-headed households and headed women regarding to social isolation, tendency to addiction, children's delinquency and economic poverty. This evidence in conjunction with the theoretical framework, shows the position of the Female-headed Households in the Socio-economic structure of society. Poverty and lack of social bound, and as a result of their experience of strain and lack of appropriate support for both formal and informal forms, lead women and their children are vulnerable to harm.
