Management of Periapical Lesions due to Foreign Body Reaction

Background and Foreign bodies may be deposited in the periapical tissues either by traumatic injury or iatrogenically. The presence of an external object in the periapical tissue by creating a foreign body reaction can lead to endodontic failure. This article describes the treatment of an unusual impaction of three foreign bodies into the periapical tissues.
Case report: Three foreign bodies in periapical space of an adolescent was accidentally detected. He had trauma history in the anterior teeth. Non-surgical and surgical treatment was performed. After two years follow up, clinical signs showed improvements and the bone was repaired.
Foreign body reaction in the periapical tissue and the delay in its detection cause extensive destruction of the bony structure. Therefore, surgical treatment for their fast removal is necessary.
