Introducing and Effective Factor on Laser Ignition Methods for Energetic Materials

Abstract:
Military equipments containing energetic materials are conventionally ignited by heat and through an explosive train. Heat is often created by a flame or electricity from a resistive wire. Energetic materials used in these systems due to electrical inseparation from the surrounded medium are exposed to different electromagnetic radiations and so unexpected ignitions of them are probable. In this manner lasers with thermogenic utilization of materials, are a perfect selection for the safe and scure ignition and explosion of energetic materials. At present, laser ignition of energetic materials as a progressive method has been developed quickly for the safe and confidential ignition. This ignition method is only performed by an optical fiber. The process is immune to accidental ignition from the electromagnetic fields, radio waves absorption, electromagnetic pulses, electrostatic discharge or stray electrical energy and has a high performance index in the explosive train. Respect to these items in this review article after introducing of laser ignition of energetic materials, it was considered to these methods, the advantages of the used technique, effective parameters on the method and ignition formulations design with a laser beam.
