Historical Geography of Central Zagros Region in the Pre-Islam Era

Due to the importance of the historical geography of western Iran, unfortunately, the historical geography of the central Zagros region has not been studied so far. This region forms the major part of Kermanshah province and a part of its neighboring provinces. What stands out as a basic generality is that this region is known as the origin of the first Iranian government, the Medes, and Hamedan is world famous as the center of this government. However, less has been written about other cities that were located in this area, especially on the route of the ancient road to Babylon. In this article, the sources available in four time periods including the historical geography of Central Zagros from the beginning to the Achaemenid period, the Parthian period and finally the historical geography of the region in the Sassanid period are examined.
