An analysis of Saray story from the Barthes semiotics point of view

Saray story is one of the popular myths of Azerbaijan in which hero using the power of love made a courageous decision by which she became one of the famous heroes in Azerbaijan culture. Mythology is part of broad knowledge of semiology aim of which is detecting covert ideas in myths and base of culture including beliefs, values and moods of every tribe. This research using Barthes’ semiotics theory (1392), investigated and analyzed Saray story. According to present findings, deliberation on covert mythical elements in underlying layers of this story such as loyalty, courage, chastity, and freedom of its hero who at the end of the story by throwing her body in Arpajay river made herself eternal, was the secret of eternity of Saray story and reflects culture and modes of the people of this region. Also it shows how some believes in the story are strengthened and transcendental and others are weakened and neglected.
