Psychometric examination of High school chemistry self-efficacy scale

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study was to examine the psychometric properties of High school chemistry self-efficacy scale (HCSS) in a sample population of high school students. This research is a descriptive- correlational study with a population of 3th grade of high school students from Bojnourd city. A number of 268 students were selected with multistage sampling and completed the High school chemistry self-efficacy scale (Aydin, & Uzuntiryaki, 2009). The data collected was analyzed through factor analysis, Cronbach’s Alpha, Pearson Correlation and Multivariate Variance Analysis (MANOVA), in SPSS 16. The analysis of the main factors with direct oblimin rotation and a variance of 72.19 supported 2 factors. Appropriate internal consistency between items and total score were obtained. The Cronbach’s Alpha for Chemistry self-efficacy for cognitive skills equal 0.96 and the 0.86 quotient for the Self-efficacy for chemistry laboratory indicated the positive reliability of the scale. The positive correlation pattern in the High school chemistry self-efficacy scale dimensions with the chemistry exam score was indicative of predictive validity. There are nonsignificant Gender differences. But differences based on schools are significant. In sum, The High school chemistry self-efficacy scale enjoyed an appropriate reliability and validity in students of Bojnourd city.
