Investigation of Morphology and production efficiency of Produced Nano-Fibers with multi-nozzle electrospinning process

Abstract:
Electrospinning is a simple and appropriate technique to produce continues Nano-fibers with outstanding characteristics. In this study multi-jet electrospinning of Polyacrylonitrile solution considering effect of parameters such as density of solution, voltage and flow rate on produced Nano-fibers diameter and also productivity in comparison with single-jet electrospinning were tested. Results show that increasing the solution density from 8% to10% due to difficult stretching the jets, average diameter from 135 to 191nm of fibers and productivity increases. In the case of multi nozzles at lower voltages, with a voltage increase of 5 kw, the production rate is 2 times higher at a higher voltage of 1.6 times. Increasing voltage up to an optimum range causes increasing average fibers diameter and more than this value decreases the fibers diameter. This result according to electrostatic force analysis can be explained. Increasing the voltage has positive effect on increasing productivity. Investigating the effect of density shows that increasing flow rate has an optimum (from 0.5 to 1ml/h) value and increasing more than this value, The average diameter of the fiber increases from 164 to 191 nm, While increasing the flow rate from 1 to 2ml/h because of inability of electrostatic forces to turn all the jets into fibers, causes decreasing the average diameter of fibers and productivity. It adds up that in multi-jet electrospinning increasing voltage and solution density, increases productivity up to several times, otherwise solution density does not have specified effect on productivity.
