Abstract:
In this research, thermal investigation of gasoline engine turbocharger is performed using thermal imaging camera. In order to specify emissivity factor of turbocharger housings, new method is established using furnace. In addition, temperature sensors are mounted inside wall of turbine, compressor and bearing housings to measure temperature of turbocharger while running in engine test cell. Steady and unsteady tests with different working points are performed in engine test cell. Also, effect of exhaust fan is investigated on temperature distribution of compressor housing. Results show that maximum temperature of turbine housing wall is 750°C which has linear dependency to exhaust gas temperature, and also, to compare the reading temperature of the temperature sensor with the camera, take a photo of the location of the temperature sensor. Maximum temperature of compressor housing reach 170°C. According to results, temperature distribution of turbocharger housings is only achievable with infra-red camera (thermal camera)
