Determination of Abbandan Storage Volume in Irrigation and Drainage of Alborz Basin using MIKEBASIN
Access to enough water for irrigation in rice growing season is usually a problem for farmers in paddy fields of the north of Iran. To solve this problem it is necessary to find strategies to control of untimely rainfall with expansion of regulated structures and storage of current runoff. In this research, investigated the necessity of construction of abbandan and determination of storage volume in irrigation and drainage of Alborz basin using MIKEBASIN. For identifying of water user association (WUA) with water shortages, the basin was simulated with MIKEBASIN model and WUA with water shortages were determined. Runoff map was obtained using the Justin Formula. Simulation of the basin shown that in this basin was not enough water for WUA of BMC2, B3-2, HATKI3, C25-3 and C25-4 despite the use of all water resources that there was in around the plan. The amount of the annual shortage was estimated equal to 13.35 MCM. New basin area for WUA of C25-4, HATKI3, C25-3, B3-2 and BMC-2 was obtained 1479.49, 2814.48, 2592.42, 2529.24 and 2245.15 hectare, respectively. The amount of new controllable runoff for WUA of C25-4, HATKI3, C25-3, B3-2 and BMC-2, was estimated 2.57, 9.19, 4.56, 5.62 and 7.43 MCM, respectively. For C25-4 WUA despite the use of new control runoff, the lack of it could not be compensated. To solve this problem, it is necessary to supply water from WUA which have not water shortage problem, or assign more water from irrigation and drainage network and dam. It is recommended that the WUAs need to be trained and help by water company and other regional organizations for improve the water use efficiency.
