Synthesis and Characterization of PbO Nano -Plates by Sonochemical Method: Effect of Surfactants

In this paper, PbO nanoplates were successfully prepared by a sonochemical method under ambient atmosphere and characterized by scanning electron microscopy SEM, X-ray diffraction XRD, Raman and UV–Vis spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis EDX and fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy FTIR. We studied the effect of additions of polyvinyl pyrrolidone a non-ionic ligand and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide a cationic ligand as surfactants on the structural and physical properties of PbO samples. The results of the SEM images show that the use of polyvinyl pyrrolidone surfactant has resulted in regular nanoplates with a mean diameter of 2 μm, while that of cetyltrimethyl ammonium as the surfactant result in nanoparticles and microparticles.
