Survey of Caregiver Burden and its related factors in Caregiver of hemodialysis patients in Bandar Abbas Shahid Mohammadi Hospital, 2016

Caregivers of patients with chronic renal failure have many problems with patient care and treatment. This study aimed to determine the level of caregiver burden and its related factors in caregivers of hemodialysis patients referring to Mohammadi hospital in Bandar Abbas. This descriptive-analytic cross-sectional study was carried out on 57 carers of hemodialysis patients in Bandar Abbas, Shahid Mohammadi hospital in 2016. Data were collected through interview by completing two questionnaire of Zarit caregiver burden and socio-demographic of patients and caregivers. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 22 and using descriptive statistical methods, Independent T-Test, One-Way Variance Analysis and Pearson Correlation Coefficient tests. P<0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Average age of caregivers 48.03 ±14.23 and the majority of them (75.40%) were women and in terms of employment 52.5% were housewives. Mean of caregiver burden was 49.24 ±16.19 and 66.70% of the caregivers had severe caregiver burden. Pearson correlation coefficient showed that the level of caring pressure with caring age (p <0.04) and with the duration of disease (p <0.03) direct and significant relationship. However, it has a reverse and statistically significant correlation with the ability to perform personal activities (P <0.002) and household economic status (p <0.01). Based on the results of this study, we can determine the factors related to caregiver burden, proper planning for training, and decrease the caregiver burden and improve the condition of caregivers.
