A Study Of Rural And Nomad’s Carpet Design Historical Background And Their Relation To Prehistoric Arts

Some of the designs of Persian carpets, especially in the rural carpets are so similar to prehistoric symbols that it can be said they are straightly relative. This issue shows that these symbols have been used continuously in Iranian culture and carpet can be set as a conveyer to transmit these prehistoric symbols. Although it must be judges cautiously about the relations between means and reasons of these designs uses. This article is the result of research seeks to “The history of Iranian carpet designs” that studies the carpet designs similar to prehistoric symbols. Information for this study has been provided by the documentation method and the results are stated descriptively. Most of designs belong to non-urban areas and have been selected in one century ago carpets and rugs. Selected designs have been compared to prehistoric symbols and artifact (1000. BC) and by this method the historical background of these designs has been founded. Some of the designs that has been used in this paper for comparison are: Madakhel designs (visible and Invisible), Triangles designs (continuous and non- continuous ,Congressional and stepwise), Checkered designs (Checkered flowers, Checkered squares, Diamond checkered and …), Wavy lines, Charpareh designs, Five or twelve flowers Leaves, medallion designs, striped designs and Multifaceted designs.
