The Necessity of Learning Mathematical Concepts in Physics Education
Recently a close relationship between mathematics learning and physics learning has been shown. This paper dealt with the investigation of the effectiveness of recall and training prerequisites of mathematical knowledge on learning the physics concepts. This study was done based on Salomon four groups that two groups were selected as the experimental groups and the others as control groups. The population of this study were all the high school first grade students in Abdannan. One hundred and fifteen of them were selected by using multistage random cluster sampling. For data analysis, the Multivariate (MANOVA), Wilkinson-Mann-Whitney Test, and an independent T-Test were used. The results showed that one of the main reasons for the lack of success of students learning physics concepts was the lack of sufficient awareness of students with prerequisites of mathematical knowledge. Therefore, to increase students’ conceptual understanding of physics and improve their performance on tests of physics, we must notice to the importance of training and reminding prerequisites of mathematical knowledge. Also, this issue can help us to improve the academic achievement and prevent the academic failure of students.
