Investigation of blast location and intensity effects on vulnerability of roller compacted concrete dams
The goals of this paper are investigation of blast effective parameters, consisting blast location and intensity, in roller compacted concrete dams and vulnerability assessment of this kind of dams against blast loads. Jehgin dam due to its different types of cross sections is selected as a case study to vulnerability assessment against blast loads in which a parametric analysis is needed since the location and intensity of blast load are unpredictable. So, the Jehgin dam model is analyzed with different locations and intensities of blast load and the effects of these parameters are investigated on its behavior. The results show that the explosion on the dam crown is not always the critical and vulnerable status. Although, the stress concentration near by the blast location can be seen but, in the case of fixed blast load, tensile stress increment is not always seen following the blast intensity increment and in some cases tensile stress reduction is seen. However, the maximum compressive stress is increased by the blast intensity increment.
